James Meadours is a tireless advocate and powerful voice for the rights of people with IDD. Over the years, he has held several leadership positions and received many awards for his advocacy work. He currently sits on the Texas Advocates Board of Directors and is the Chair of the IDD Services Advisory Committee with Alamo Area Council of Governments. He is a nationally recognized Civil Rights and Sexual Assault Prevention Activist affiliated with The Arc of the United States. James is a survivor of sexual assault who has spoken out to shed light on this vital issue and was featured in NPR’s series Abused and Betrayed in 2018. He is currently the Development Team Co-Lead for Seen and Heard: IDD Community, a project funded by the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities addressing the sexual assault epidemic occurring among people with IDD.
