"Society needs to reframe how they see people with disabilities"
ABOUT THE FILM
"Natty" explores the remarkable life of Natalie Rose, a woman living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Through heartfelt testimonials from family and friends, the film celebrates her journey leading up to her 40th birthday. The documentary reflects on Natalie’s childhood in Walnut Creek, California, and the many lives she has touched along the way.
It also confronts the painful reality that, like many individuals with IDD, Natalie was a victim of abuse while attending a day program—a tragedy revealed after she was diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection.
By sharing Natalie’s story, the film seeks to raise awareness of the widespread issue of abuse against people with IDD while honoring the resilience of survivors who continue to persevere. The story concludes at Natalie’s 40th birthday celebration, a moving tribute to her life, her family’s love, and the enduring power of hope and resilience.
